Auburn House
Dublin, Ireland
The addition to Auburn House was inspired by the haphazard historic sheds, workshops and lean-tos that populated Dublin's lanes and alleyways. They were typically constructed out of readily available materials such as corrugated metal roofs.
The extension comprises a concrete shed-like form cast with a corrugated profile. A cast cube slides under the existing building to marry the old with new. A folded roof draws light deep into a previously dark existing house and a wild flower meadow crowns the building. An inviting interior of hemp panelling, timber and terrazzo floor contrast the dark exterior.
